About this deal

At this point there is the drawing of a random event card that dramatically impacts on the gameplay. For example, a car alarm has gone off, drawing all the zombies towards one of the die-cut cars in a certain direction meaning that your previously “safe” spot on the table is now in the path of the hoard. For those that think they could manage this without too much difficulty, I need to warn you that as the rounds progress, the number of territories and Walkers where these Outbreaks take place increases!

The Walking Dead Board Game: The Best Defense does an awesome job of letting players experience the “reality” of surviving as a team during a zombie apocalypse. Things don’t gradually get better, they get worse! In many zombie games players will gain resources and other items that make it much easier to overcome whatever challenges come next. The things you gain in Best Defense will only give you a little bit of an edge, and finding an awesome weapon will do you no good unless you’ve also got matching ammo on hand. Looking for a really good The Walking Dead card or board game 🧟‍♂️? Then we've got just the thing - a list of the top The Walking Dead games. What is "The Walkind Dead" anyway? This game is pretty fun. Once you get used to the mechanics, you’ll start high-fiving each other after a successful round. You’ll come close to hugging if you win. It is widely accepted that it is a good idea for families to do activities together. Robert Kirkman is all about family values, just look at his recently released comic Super Dinosaur. Now Kirkman is doing his part in not only bringing families together, but also preparing them for the inevitable zombie apocalypse. His hit comic book and television series, The Walking Dead, is being made into a board game! "The Walking Dead board game is for players 13 and up, so another mystery is how graphic this game will be. Anybody who has read The Walking Dead comics knows that it is not exactly appropriate for 13 year olds. I would assume that the language would definitely be toned down for the game, as F-Bombs aren't great for family togetherness. Since it is a game about zombies there will most certainly be some violence, but I also expect the level of violence and gore to be toned down from the comic. Otherwise this game is geared toward some hardcore 13 year olds. I also don't expect the zombies to be the only threat in this game, as that is just not Robert Kirkman's style. What other insidious threats await players? One thing I think we all really hope to get from this game is a comprehensive survival plan to survive a zombie invasion. This game could save your life." [3] Pieces [ ] Playable Characters [ ] Mantic have helped in creating a suitably post-apocalyptic atmosphere by supplying a printed full-colour game sheet featuring urban areas with disused roads and streets. There are flat cut-outs of barricades, abandoned cars and supplies, all presented from a top-down perspective. The gameplay is repetitive, not in the good way, but in the boring way. The weapons suffer from huge disparity in their effectiveness. The katana pretty much guarantees you the game as if you roll a 4+ you keep on rolling and adding it up. This allows you to pretty much dominate. Beginner or Easy mode is pretty much a guaranteed win normally. This isn’t a game like Pandemic or Flash Point: Fire Rescue where you save the day and live happily ever after. In Best Defense, IF you win, your survivors will probably be battered and bruised, some barely alive… your resources will be almost completely depleted, and the board will probably still have walkers all over it. The experience of winning could be compared to making your way through a zombie ridden building looking for resources, and barely making it out, closing the door behind you with a building still full of zombies (and maybe a survivor or two who didn’t make it out). Now don’t let this discourage you though. It’s the challenge of working together as a team to beat overwhelming odds that makes the game so fun.

If you’re looking to introduce players to the game, combine Standard mode with Beginner Difficulty. My biggest gripe, and yes Cryptozoic – this is your fault, is the box and box insert. The box is huuuuuge compared to what you get inside. It’s a store shelf billboard trying to sell you on the fact that this is The Walking Dead game. I can’t fault them for that, but it’s a beast of a box to try to transport when all the components could easily fit in a box the size of Pandemic. And that insert! Whoever designed a beautiful looking insert that allows almost all of the cards inside slide around like a small tornado ripped through zombie town should get a boot on their car. I’m seriously going to look into a card container to fit inside the box to protect the cards. I’m also going to replace the very lightweight, very bouncy six-sided dice. In addition to "The Walking Dead" branded games (i.e. games that have only been changed in appearance, such as The Walking Dead Risiko, Bang TWD), games set specifically in the TWD universe have also been designed (e.g. The Walking Dead: Here's Negan). In addition to regular board games, there are also The Walking Dead card & dice games. Looking for a board game from a different universe? The miniatures in the set are, on the whole, excellent and are a joy to paint, the detail in the Walkers is extremely good and these characters show a wide range of sculpts, from zombie waitresses to old men. The sculpts for the human characters don’t seem to be as refined, and whilst clothing details are great, a couple of their heads seem a little bulky and large. The ulterior motive cards, though optional, add nicely to the theme. Yes, you’re a team working together… but you’re also a group of individuals from all walks of life, each with your own responsibilities for survival.

If you’ve got someone who always tends to take control of cooperative games, choose the expert difficulty which will let each player make more of their own choices, while still playing as a team. Two modes of play allow for beginners and experienced players to tailor the game to their skill level As the leader you get to move each player one space, or leave them where they are. This movement is based HIGHLY on what event cards you’ve been dealt as the leader, but also what event cards other players were dealt. Most of the components just felt really cheap. The Box is way too big for what it contains. The only reasons its that big is to say “Hey Walking Dead Game Here!”, also for the cover art on it. Have to say its a pretty nice picture. The Walking Dead can be credited for revitalising the zombie genre when it appeared first as a celebrated comic and then as the long-running TV show reusing characters and recognisable narratives from the comic. The continuing narrative, focusing on a central group of survivors from the Atlanta area of the States, challenged what we would expect; here the zombies, or Walkers to those familiar with the mythos, were not villains here. Instead the regular challenges facing the survivors is the regular discovery of other groups of survivors willing to do anything to survive and scavenge the last remaining resources of food and firearms.

The question that players of this latest incarnation of The Walking Dead are going to ask here is: Does Mantic’s game capture the thrills and feeling of dread in just trying to survive against ruthless survivors and zombie hoards? The answer to that is a resounding YES! Each player chooses one survivor (popular characters from the series) and starts with a set amount of health and resources

Each player starts off with one Equipment card, two Allies, and two Food. One player (chosen by the highest die roll) will start off with the Badge of Leadership. Don’t get too excited, it just means you have to make bad choices first.
