About this deal

OK, I know I said oil-based gloss turns yellow over time, and it does. But Crown Next Generation takes an awful long time to discolour. Available online, or any Crown Decorating Centre. It’s funny, a few years ago, Johnstone’s Aqua was widely regarded as the best white water-based gloss paint available. However, comparing it to the more modern Teknos Futura 90 just outlines its flaws. It is still good, but it’s harder to apply, can damage your brushes and turns yellow after a couple of years. We hope this best gloss paint guide has provided you with all the information you need to make the right choice for your job. Get Prices for a Professional Decorator Near You

Having used other one coat glosses in the past, we found that the Dulux Once Gloss covers much better and flows over woodwork especially. The benefit of this is that with one coat, you don’t want to be leaving any brush marks which is precisely what this paint achieves. Gloss paint is one of our favourites to use and gives you a nice, shiny finish you wouldn’t get with other types of paint. If you’re looking for something to use in your interior or exterior, this has you covered!

If you’ve painted your radiator in the past and have found that the paint is flaking or showing signs of rust, it’s probably a good idea to give it a new paint job. We’re big fans of the Ronseal One Coat and would recommend it over any other when it comes to gloss for radiators. If you really want a nice finish with this, we’d recommend giving your radiator a clean and sand down any rusty bits leftover from the old paint. Optionally, you can prime the radiator first with something like BIN Primer. Even with a specific roller for gloss, you’ll want to lay it off with a good gloss brush once you’re done just to make sure you get that nice, smooth finish. How do you get a smooth finish with gloss paint? While some paints can leave a strong odour for a lengthy period of time, you won’t get that problem with Brilliant White

Whilst you can use a roller for gloss paint, you’ll almost always get the best finish with a paint brush. For reasons of hygiene and safety, personal grooming products, cosmetics or items of intimate clothing cannot be returned. This paint is touch-dry within an hour and re-coatable in around 4 to 6 hours making it a convenient option for surfaces such as doors and windows. We’ve used this paint in the past and found it’s a particularly good choice when we’re painting in commercial environments due to its speedy dry time. We always get a high quality finish from it and would definitely recommend it.If you do decide to use a roller, you’ll want to have a specific roller at hand that’s been designed for gloss application. A regular roller is likely to leave little fibres behind during application. You need a natural bristle paintbrush to apply oil-based gloss, otherwise the paint will clog within half an hour or so. Your best bet is the Hamilton Perfection, which is an oil-school brush, but still a favourite amongst Decorators. You will be able to apply gloss paint and lay it off with ease. Available online here. This particular gloss comes in a variety of colours including cream, white, barolo, victory red and vine green.

But let’s not get too bogged down with the science of paint. All I want to do in this blog, is talk about what I think are the three best white gloss products on the market. I can only go off my personal experience, so I apologise if your favourite isn’t on the list. However, I am a massive product geek, so I have tried a large proportion of the gloss paints that are available. As a decorator, the question “which is the best white gloss” comes up regularly. It used to be a simple choice, but now the range of gloss paint products are exponential. We’re not just talking about more brands (of which there are many), but there are also different types of gloss paint. This gloss still looks brand new years after it has been applied. You may find it easier to apply the paint using a foam roller, then laying off with a brush. Keeping your brush wet, or even wiping your surfaces with a damp cloth before painting will help you avoid brush marks. The best things about Ronseal One Coat is that it’s scratch and scuff resistant, heat resistant and most importantly stays white!

Johnstone’s get a rating of 5/5 for durability whilst scoring highly when it comes to ease of use and how easy it is to clean which is essential with British weather! Modern synthetic paintbrushes are of little use to apply oil-based gloss. You also need a certain type of roller. So, I thought I’d include a little section on the best brush and roller to go for. Gloss paint isn’t very good at hiding imperfections so the secret to get a nice smooth finish with gloss paint is to firstly prepare the surface beforehand. You can do this by sanding down any imperfections which takes us to the next step. It feels as though Johnstone’s Aqua gloss has much more oil in it than Teknos Futura 90. You cannot simply wash a brush out with clean water, as you would with other systems. Instead, you should start off with water, then finish washing out with a product called Clean Spirit. We’ve included this category because we’ve had many customers in the past ask us if it was even possible to paint your radiator. The short answer – yes it is. Secondly, you can use one or two coats of a good primer which will help to smooth over the surface before you’re ready to apply the gloss. If working with wood in particular, we tend to sand down the surface again before applying the second coat of primer.
